CableLabs announced Monday that members of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and its international arm, the International Society of Broadband Experts, will soon vote whether to merge with the larger group.
CableLabs is a $75 million-revenue association based in Louisville, Colo. SCTE is a $15 million-revenue organization based in Exton, Pa.
"If approved, the transaction will ensure that the industry will not only meet the current pace of change—--but be in a position to accelerate it," CableLabs said on its website.
A Q&A on SCTE's website said the merger would not affect current members' benefits or status. It also said there are no plans to reduce staff in either organization, decrease costs or budgets, or eliminate services, programs and chapters.
